1999 – US Kyokushin Open Championships held in Maine. Hoosain Narker, the Kaicho of Ashihara Karate International, at age 36 knocks out his opponent in what was declared the best knockout of the tournament with a spinning jumping hook kick on his way to the finals.

In 1992, the Karate Association of South Africa – which had just been unified from the previously advantaged karate structure with the non-racial karate structure, held its first Unified Karate Championships in Pretoria which was sponsored by Black Cat Peanut Butter. Simon was one of the top heavyweight fighters on our circuit those years and together with Abdul Gakiem Hayzer, Stanley Ngcobo, the late Donnie Jonathan Marx and others, completed the 100 Man Kumite as part of their sandan (3rd Dan) test in 1997.
